How to Get Your VR Legs and Put an END to VR Motion Sickness!!!
If you appreciate the work I do here on the channel and would like to help me create more content like this, Super Thanks is a great way to help out. It allows me to purchase new GPU's and games making these videos possible. Thanks!
VR is one of the coolest ways to play video games hands down! You aren't just playing a game anymore, you're in the game! But before we're able to enjoy all the experiences VR has to offer one path many of us need to travel is that of earning our VR legs. Earning your VR legs is very much like a sailor getting their sea legs. When we first try VR and experience artifical locomotion our brains and bodies aren't quite sure what's going on or how to handle it. Our eyes are telling us we're moving but our bodies aren't feeling it and our bodies reaction to this is to make us feel sick. The good news is this is only temporary; just like a sailor can get their sea legs you too can get your VR legs. In this video I share 5 tips that have helped me feel more comfortable in VR and I hope will help you to put an end to your VR sickness and allow you to enjoy all the amazing experiences VR has to offer.

Is 8GB of VRAM Enough for PC VR?

It's currently October 2023 and both AMD and Nvidia have recently released what are supposed to be mid-tier graphics cards with only 8GB of VRAM on them! Namely the RX 7600 and the RTX 4060ti 8GB. Many games nowadays are beginning to recommend 12 or even 16GB of VRAM which begs the question, what were AMD and Nvidia thinking when designing these cards? They argue 8GB is still plenty of VRAM for...

    I did find out that the flashing lights you saw at 13:20 may be resolved after turning off MSAA, There have been three worlds in VRChat that i've seen so far with the same flashing lights, and someone in the intel discord server found out that it could be "resolved" by turning off MSAA, and it worked! I can't confirm it will make it will still make the characters meshes in the characters visible or not however, but if you have a chance, maybe you could check it out?

    Consider checking first how a ALR fabric works before setting this up, you might want to rotate the frame 180 degrees as the ALR fabric is just a series of triangles* that redirect the projector light and remove the unwanted polarized reflected light...

      No. I'm not 100% sure how it works, but I believe the Alexa app is just the app used to communicate with the switch and it then saves the program to the switch. I programmed my Mom's switches using my phone and her lights are still working great on the schedule I set up.

    Actually, I'm having a problem. Previously, when I plugged in an audio device, a small pop-up (from an app I can't recall) would ask for settings. I'd select 'headset' and everything worked fine. Now, that pop-up doesn't show, and I can't select 'headset'. Because of this, only the headphones work, not the microphone. I'm not sure what to do.

    I couldn't help but laugh at myself at 7:30. This is the best way to play for full impression, but i had to unlearn the turning irl since i learned that i end up spending most of my live streams with the back of my head facing the camera lol. I had to use all sorts of sound ques to help me indicate the general direction of my PC so that i could try to face my camera as much as possible! I had to learn how to adapt to smooth turning with the analog stick, which could be a bit jarring lol 😂

  • @s1gma-s1x

    What a great topic that I think very few people share with other users and is something that I think that the majority of new VR users will have to face because the medium is so foreign to them. Those who know me and my VR journey know that I've traveled in all sorts of environments, planes, trains, automobiles, and boats. Etc. and I've never been car sick, sea sick, or air sickness. To put it bluntly, I've never experienced being motion sick...... then I got VR! I goofed around with my first headset (Quest 2) with some of the built-in default apps. Not paying attention to the games comfort settings (green= comfortable, yellow= mild, red= intense) and ended up playing my first real VR title about 3 days of having my headset without any issues so I thought that I would be fine which was Contractors VR! The first handful of steps were jarring to me! I felt drunk and hungover all at once. In the headset, I was walking straight, but irl I was literally spinning from the sick feeling that I was experiencing! I bumped into my couch (since I had a very small playspace back then), and as I was falling down backward onto the couch, I managed to hit the jump button on my controller! So, as I was physically falling over, mentally, in VR, I was leaping about 4 feet into the air! It had felt like my soul had left my body 😂. When I landed on the couch, I took my headset off and preceded to lay there for 3 days, feeling the worst sickness that I had ever felt till that day! I thought that I was one of the few who couldn't adapt to VR and that I wasted money on a medium that I couldn't ever adapt to. But I did, with baby steps. The moral of my story, and one that I advise to new players getting into VR, is this, 1: Take your time and get your your footing. 2: Don't rush into bigger games. 3: Find the comfort ratings (at least from games stores that have them posted (Oculus & Steam has the comfort ratings by the rating of the game on its description page. And, yes! I know that it's called Meta now, but Oculus was and still is the more superior name, no cap). 4: Adjust to games slowly to learn your limitations (even to those who developed their "VR legs" I know people can play vr games with ease but still throw up after playing Flight Sim games). 5: Respect your body. Don't try to fight through feeling uncomfortable. Pause, take a breather, and rest! I think for laughs, I may have to recreate my first experience on my channel somehow 😅 that would be a complete blast to do if I could find a way to pull it off!

    Not using blinders here too. Make me sick almost immediately. Most VR goggles make me feel claustrophobic to begin with, I rather have a wide view, which feels more natural and not exacerbates the conflict between what you see and feel. I also keep a fan pointed at me. Keeps me cool, gives me a point of orientation and does give the body some kind of input that resembles movement.

  • @bakakafka4428
    @bakakafka4428 4 дні тому

    Meta (and other manufacturers) should write a simple game specifically designed to train people to get used to VR. Step by step get more movement into it. Distribute it for free. A lot of users that get sick the first few times will throw their headset in the closet and not use it again.

    I will add that depending on the person, you may want to prioritize 120fps over graphics or resolution From experience I can say that I can play at the lowest of framerates and with weird movement and be fine in VR, however when I drop to 90 or below my eyes get tired in about 15 minutes, again, not dizzy, just tired, where as with 120 I can basically play for the entire day Again, this depends on the person, but I personally can't play below 120, and I will also add that I prefer 90hz over 60+60 (reprojected / ASW)

  • @desperado1265
    @desperado1265 4 дні тому

    I have to strongly disagree, vr racing Sims and flying Sims are the best way to get over your motion sickness as you know you are not moving but instead you're in a cockpit thus solidifying even more the experience of realism especially if you're using a racing wheel or flight sticks, and above all make sure you are never below 75fps as that will trigger motion sickness you want to aim for 90 to 120 constant FPS.

    I remember trying the Rift Dk1 back in 2013, after a 3-5 min seated demo both Fal and I were sick for the rest of the day and night, we both had really odd un-rested sleep. He persisted with it but for me being asked - hay how do you fancy feeling like vomiting? I was always ok with driving games and even flight games, I remember playing Elite Dangerous and Assetto Corsa back on the DK2 absolutely fine - I even loved a Roller Coaster tech demo on the DK1. There was something about walking around that I just struggled with though partially I think it was a balance thing too. As graphics and refresh rates have improved, so have I - as you know. For motion sickness (not just VR sickness) I would also add when you start to feel it, a nice cold glass of ice water and something cold on forehead is a massive help in recovering.

  • @nonegone7170

    Don't forget the potential (especially the older titles for VR) for discomfort by the 'comfort' options they bake in, like teleport locomotion and snap turning or vignette when turning. They can definitely add some VR motion sickness due to the disconnect from your controls that those options cause.
